How to start a fire in a stove insert or free-standing stove

 Take full pages of newspaper and crumble into many balls. Throw them into the firebox until it is full, without stuffing it. Put dry kindling wood on top of the paper, towards the back. Be careful not to put in too much kindling. Light the paper on several different places and close the door so it stays ajar. After a few minutes add more kindling and maybe some bigger wood. After about 15 minutes close the door completely.  Add additional wood as desired.

Always make sure that the wood is dry.
